MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
After hearing MGMT on the radio almost everyday, I thought I’d check out their 2007 album Oracular Spectacular.
They first got my attention with the song Time to Pretend. Their unique blend of guitar, synths, and vocals produces a highly appealing texture, and the great melodies make this song unforgettable. The synth “hook” will get stuck in your head for hours after - you’ve been warned.
I first heard Electric Feel in a packed rock club in Toronto. Everyone was dancing by the time the song was half over, and they all had smiles on their faces. It’s almost retro in a way, and the disco-style guitar chords force you to bounce along. The vocals and lyrics are stylish to say the least. Another chorus that will have you singing along the second time round.
Another fantastic song that has been getting constant radio-play is called Kids. The song starts with a sample of kids playing before the drum/synth intro starts. The vocal melody is outstanding once again, and when the chorus hits, you’ll be hooked. Great song.
The rest of the album isn’t as memorable as the three singles mentioned above. It’s not bad, but let’s just say they chose the right songs to release to the radio world.

Sincerely,
