Capital H - Population Control

Published by BW at 7:34 pm under Album Reviews Edit This

This fast-paced punk band - interestingly titled Capital H - has just independently released their debut album: Population Control.

The instrumental work on this album is quite impressive considering the band is only a year old. The rhythm section is solid and creative while supporting the vocal melodies perfectly.

The guitar playing is fierce at times and gentle at others - the title track is a perfect example of this contrast. Very cool.

Album opener, The Aitch, is a great introduction, but its style is quite different than the other 12 songs. Another oddball is the piano based Two Minutes Hate – inspired by George Orwell’s 1984. This song is the most relaxing on the album and its differences are somewhat refreshing.

Other notable songs are: Everything is Parasitic, The Madvocate, and The Unholy Brain-Douche. Each song contains excellent and well thought out lyrics. They wanted me to add that this was a 100% D.I.Y production…and that only makes this album more impressive.

The band isn’t playing many shows right now, but is playing in Toronto on the 25th of January.

Go check out their myspace to listen to their songs. You won’t be disappointed.
